SPORTING

Racing Notes

Scratchings: Scratchings yesterday for Saturday’s Pakaranga meeting were: Admiralty Handicap: Phaleron Sign 9.10 a.m.; Bullock-Webster Handicap: Water Flight 9 a.m., Faris 4 p.m. Sporting Gold was withdrawn from the Bullock-Webster Handicap at 1.50 p.m. on Wednesday. Raced Well: The Auckland hack Bronze Night has run good races on the flat and over the hurdles. One of his best efforts was his third to Stock Exchange and Prince Baffles in the Hamilton Hack Cup over. 11 furlongs. A repetition of this form would make him hard to beat in the BullockWebster Memorial to-morrow.

Done Well: Forest Glen is reported to have done Well since he raced at Ellerslie in June, when he was a fair fourth in the Great Northern Steeplechase. He is usually .a reliable fencer, and should take a lot of beating in the Pakuranga Hunt Cup. In the race last year Forest Glen got the decision after .a protest against Huirangi Sun for interference in the straight, Huirangi Sun beating him by a nose.

Consistent: Two wins and a second in his last three starts is the record of Altess, having his first race in open company to-morrow at Ellerslie, where he is on the minimum in the Admiralty Handicap. Altess is at home in bad ground and as these conditions are likely to-morrow, he may show up.

Shaping Well: A j A aSince being converted to pafting Sir Carol has shown improvement. He was a close third to Paul Collette and Scottish Emperor at the New Brighton trials.

Good Type: Jackie' Guv is a fine colt by Jack Potts from Lottie Guy and gave a solid display to win at the recent New Brighton trials. He ran third in the Welcome Handicap for two-year-olds, his conquerors being Czardas and Admiration. He had a good deal of ground to make up over the last half-mile, and he displayed great stamina. Jackie Guy is in A. Fairbairn’s stable. He should get some of the money in the Canterbury Handicap at Addington.

So,id: . Casabianca was responsible for a good display at the New Brighton trials when he finished third to Appreciate and Tolerate. He was not knocked about during the running. He should strip a fit horse to-mor-row.

Back to Form: Parrish Lad won the principal event at the New Brighton trials from Mankind .and Gold Bar. The Great Parrish gelding may now be back to the form that brought him into prominence in the north about 18 months ago, when he beat some of the best pacers. A great stayer when right, he ean handle .any going. He may bring C. S. Donald’s stable a welcome change of luck at the Metropolitan meeting. From Nelson:

The Hope trainer, L. F. Berkett, will include Karangi in his team for Addington, and the Great Bingen gelding should at least pay expenses. Karangi has raced well but without much luck. He showed courage and stamina when he ran second from 36yds behind over one mile and' five furlongs at Addington in March, and should have no difficulty in staying two miles. 10-YEAR DISQUALIFICATION (Rec. 11.30) SYDNEY, Aug. 17. Two leading jockeys, A. Knox and F. Shean, failed to-day in their appeals to the A.J.C. against two years’ disqualifications imposed on them for offering another jockey 1600 to pull Abbevville in a race the latter won. Shean’s two-year penalty was confirmed and Knox’s disqualification was raised to ten years.
