103 TRANSPORT COYS.

TAKEN OVER BY U.S.A. GOVERNMENT. ON ACCOUNT OF STRIKE. (Rec. 6.30.) WASHINGTON, Aug. 12. The United States Government has seized 103 Mid-Western truck companies. These concerns are affected by a strike of 25,000 drivers. Tne Goyernment has appointed a Federal manager for the companies. It has ordered all the men to return to work immediately to avert a traffic bottleneck which is rapidly endangering the movement of military supplies. The drivers struck after the companies refused to pay a seven cents hourly increase, as ordered by tne War Labour Board. The companies claimed that they could not afford the increase unless they were financially relieved by the Government. The Office of Defence Transportation is now paying the increase.
