CLIPPER CRASH
17 PASSENGERS PERISH ’ HAVANA, Aug. 9. It >s confirmed that 17 passengers perished in the clipper crash at ’Antilla, Cuba. One passenger, William Smallwood said that just .as the clipper was ready to leave the water it hit a heavy swell, which tore the bottom out of the ship and the clipper broke in two. This clipper, Sikorsky 542, made the pioneer Pacific flight from San Francisco to China via Hawaii, Wake, Midway and Guam.
