U.S. AIRCRAFT OUTPUT

DECREASE LAST MONTH (Rec. 95) WASHINGTON. J’uly 4. Mr Charles Wilson, Vice-Chairman of the U.S. War production Board, has disclosed that 8049 planes were produced in the United States in the month of June. This is the lowest total in ten months. Mr Wilson explained that three of the companies Droduc-ng small planes had failed to meet their schedules, but said that production of most of the larger planes, including 8.29 Fortresses, was satisfactorily maintained. There had been a regrettable slump in the output of Curtiss Wright cargo planes and of Navy fighters. T’he total airframe weight of all the planes produced, however, was only slightly lower than in the previous months. Mr Wilson said that the lost production oT fighter and trainer planes could be made up during, the next three months, but the decline in the output of the cargo planes was a serious one. It would be dangerous if it were permitted to continue.
