RECORD WOOL CHEQUE
FOR AUSTRALIA SYDNEY, July 4. The Australian wool cheque for 1943-44 was a record at £73,701,759, eclipsing the previous record of £73,553,991 made in 1942-43. Appraisments totalled 3,606,684 bales, compared with 3,501,457 in 1942-43. The appraised value was £66,850,270 and the average price was 13.9245 d per lb. or nearly 11 per cent, below the United Kingdom Government purchase price of 15.4531 d per lb. This percentage represents a difference of £6,851,489, and thus raises the Commonwealth wool cheque for the season to the record figure of £73,701,759.
