Pte. S. Ellis arrived yesterday from Christchurch.

Constable and Mrs R. Horn, of Wellington are visiting Greymouth. Mrs I. M. Patton arrived yesterday from Christchurch.

Mrs A. Beban left yesterday for Napier.

Mr. B. Anderson left lest evening for Christchurch, where he will take up residence.

Mr J. McMillan of the Railways Department, Greymouth, left yesterday on transfer to Christchurch.

Mr M. F. Percasky arrived yesterday from Christchurch on transfer to the traffic branch of the Railways Department, Greymouth.

Rt. Hon. P. Fraser is expected to return to New Zealand before the last week of the present month. Hon. W. Nash is expected back a few days later.

Mr W. L. Newnham, Engineer-in-Chief of the Public Works Department, will arrive in Greymouth tomorrow evening on official business. He will probably be making an inspection of harbour facilities..

Hon. B. Roberts, Minister of Agriculture, will visit Greymouth on Friday, July 14, to meet the members of the West Coast Council of Primary Production. Advice to this effect has been received by the Secretary of the Council. Mr. J. Mulcare.

Sir Howard Kelly, Admiral of the Fleet, is relinquishing the post of personal representative of the Com-mander-in-Chief, Mediterranean, with the Turkish Fleet, and is to proceed shortly to London, according to a message from Ankara.

The King has approved of the award of a second bar to the D.S.C. to Terhp. Lieut. George James MacDonald, R.N.Z.N.V.R., whose father resides in Wellington, for good service in light coastal craft in action against the enemy.

Mr and Mrs Green and their daughter, of Ngahere, have left to taka up residence at Wakefield, Nelson. Prior to their departure they wera farewelled by residents of the district and made recipients of a suitable gift. They were also made a presentation by the Church Guild.

Word has been received in Greymoutih that Mr. Bernard Page, oi Wellington, is to be the examiner for The Trinity College of Music on the West Coast this year. Mr. Page recently arrived back from England, where he has spent the last 10 years, and he is well-known as a teacher or music of many years’ standing, in Wellington. He is expected to arrive on the West Coast at about the beginning of October

Advice was received by University of New Zealand from the British Council that a special scholarship for women, competed for in 1943, has been awarded to Miss A. K. Caugh]ey, a graduate in arts of the University of New Zealand, who completed her master’s degree in English in 1938. She took a course at the Victoria and Canterbury Colleges. She has since had experience of teaching in Masterton, Wellington and Christchurch. A special subject in which she has been elected to do in research while in (Britain is speech therapy.—P.A.

Mr John R„obertson, of Masterton, the well-known former Labour member of Parliament, was presented with a well-filled wallet in recognition of .his services to the Labour Movement, at a function at Masterton. Mrs Robertson was the recipient of a wall mirror. The Minister of Defence (Hon. F. J’ones), the Minister of Agriculture (Hon. B. Roberts) and the former Mayor of Masterton (Mr Jordan) were among those present. A tribute was paid to the work of Mr Robertson as chairman of the Public Accounts Committee and to his work for the people of the Masterton electorate. His other contributions to the work of Parliament were also acknowledged.
