Mr. G. Duggau, Chief Inspector of Mines, left on Saturday, for Wellington.

Mr. H. M. Affleck, Whall Street, left by Saturday’s express on a holiday visit to his daughter, Mrs. D. Minchin, Shannon.

A cable from Hot Springs, in Virginia, records the death of Mr Norman H. Davis, National Chairman of the American Red Cross.

A London cablegram states that a Viscountcy has been conferred upon Sir Samuel Hoare, British Ambassador .at Madrid.

Hon. P. C. Webb, who on Saturday passed through Reefton en route from Westport to Wellington, received during his stay a number of private Reefton deputations. The Minister was accompanied by Mr. C. H. Benney, Under Secretary of Mines.

The funeral of the late Mr. Arthur Robinson of Rotomanu took place on Saturday, at Karoro Cemetery, being largely attended. The cortege included representatives of local bodies, of which deceased was formerly a member. The pall-bearers were Messrs H. Higgins, E. Parfitt, T. P. Ryan and A. J. Wilson. Requiem Mass at St. Patrick’s Church was celebrated by Rev. Father A.- C. Gregory, who also* conducted the service at the graveside.
