Mr. R- Rose left yesterday on return to Invercargill.

Flight Lieutenant P. Phillips left for Wellington yesterday.

Pte. H. Mills, who recently returned from the Pacific, is visiting Greymouth.

Mr and Mrs C. F. Shapcott left yesterday morning for Lower Hutt, where Mr Shapcott has been appointed District Manpower Officer.

The death occurred suddenly at his Wellington residence on Wednesday, of Mr David C Sclater, secretary of the Rehabilitation Board.

The engagement is announced of Hazel, third daughter of Mr RRothera, Greymouth, to Donald, second son of Mr and Mrs F. Williams, Taylorville.

The retirement is announced of Mr P. G. Pearce, Commissioner of Stamp Duties, Registrar of Companies, and Secretary for Lands and Deeds. He will be succeeded by Mr J. Caradus. Mr W. J. Maher was appointed head teacher at the Waiuta School, and" Mrs M. E. Hampton sole teacher at Blackwater, at a meeting of the Nelson Education Board this week.

The King, at Buckingham Palace, received in audience, Sir Henry Wood, whom he invested with the insignia of a Companion of Honour, and Sir Henry Dale, President of the Royal Society, whom he invested with the Order of Merit, and Sir Malcolm Barclay-Harvey, on his retirement from the post of Governor of South Australia.

Mr G. Sutherland, of the staff of the National Bank, Greymouth, who left yesterday on transfer to Pukekohe, was farewelled by members of the Greymouth staff and was presented with .a fountain pen. The presentation was made by the manager, Mr J. M. Macaulay. Mr Sutherland will be replaced at Greymouth by Mr C G. Grubb, of Nelson;

Mr and Mrs S. C. F. Treweek left, yesterday morning for Christchurch, where Mr Treweek will take up the appointment of Senior Supervisor of tne Postal Branch of the Chief Post Office. Mr Treweek, who has held a similar position at the Chief. Post Office, Greymouth, was farewelled by the staff of that office and district offices, on whose behalf the Chief Postmaster (Mr M. R. Aldridge) presented him with an envelope of notes, accompamed by good wishes.
