Miss N. Bierwirth left on Saturday for Christchurch where she is to enter St. George’s Hospital. Privates A. Fowler, N. Night, and Lance-Cpl. R. Lawn arrived on Saturday from the Pacific, while Private K. McMahon arrived yesterday. Waitahu Gold Club played the final matches of the Ist round for the Humphries Cup during the week-end. E. Patterson beat O. McMahon; P. J. Gallaher beat F. Archer; W. J. Humphries, J. W. Osborne and W. Williams won their matches by default. In a challenge match for the McKenzie Buttons the holders, R. Gilsenan and C. D. Doyle beat W. Williams and F. Watts 2 and 1.

Black’s Foint residents recently tendered a welcome home social to Trooper W. J. Johnston who was recently invalided from Italy and W.O. II E. J. Fitzgerald who returned from the Solomons. Mr. W. Butcher, president of the Black’s Point Red Cross, made a presentation of monej’ to each of the soldiers. Other speakers Messrs J. Crossman, L. Watson, School Committee and J. Cutbush, R.S.A. Several items were given by school children, and Mrs. R. Bolitho, Mr. W. Hansen, and Misses V. Bolitho and F. Nicholls.
