SYDNEY, June 7 A splendid response has been made by the striking New Sout'n Wales coal miners to the leaders’ appeals to work for a maximum output in view of the opening of the second front. All of the mines which have begn idle because of the butter ration strikes were working to-day, and the loss of coal production will be lower than for many weeks. The United Press says that Portugal, on the eve of the invasion, agreed to halt all shipments of wolfram to Germany and to close down all wolfram mines immediately. Germany, henceforth, will be dependent on Spanish imports which were recently reduced from one thousand to 280 tons yearly. AMERICAN MAJOR-GENERAL DEMOTED. (Rec. 2.10.) LONDON, June 7. The British Associated Press correspondent at S.H.A.E.F., says that one of America’s best-known MajorGenerals has been demoted to Lieu-tenant-Colonel and sent home for indicating in advance the day and hie time of the invasion.
