The April report of the manager of the Greymouth Municipal Abbatoir (Mr. W. Hughes) state’s that during the month the following stock was examined: Cows 84, bullocks 108, sheep -93, lambs 74, calves 81, nigs 19. Two cows were condemned. Fees collected totalled £l3l 16s 6d.

At a sitting of the Westland Land Sales Committee at Greymouth yesterday,! the only case for hearing, that of a sale of a house in Herbert Street, Greymouth, by. Holmlea berthed at 5.35 last evening and is expected to sail at 8 o’clock this morning with coal for Wanganui. S.S. Gabriella berthed at 6.35 Last evening to load boal and timber for Wellington. S.S. Rata is expected on Wednesday t.o load coal for Tarakohe.

Though Greymouth Harbour is at present being worked .on the basis of the low water depth of 13 feet recorded when soundings were taken on Wednesday afternoon, the Harbourmaster (Captain H. Moar) said yesterday that these soundings showed that a little more shoaling had occurred at the top heads on both the north and south sides, and the bar appeared to be gradually shoaling up again. He added that any affect the present seas had was likely to be unfavourable. The bar is at present at the tip' heads and the depth gradually increased outside. Mrs. Gutiberlet presided over the monthly meeting o f the Brunner Women’s Institute . It was decided to change the Institute night to Wednesday and to_conduct a card tournament each Monday night. Mrs. P. Moore read the report from the Council meeting. Mrs. G. Martin demonstrated the uses of felt and how it could be made into a number of novelties both useful and interesting. Mrs. Coates won the wandering shilling. Competition winners were: Fruit loaf, Mrs. Todd; child’s toy, Mrs. Gutiberlet. Supper was served and the meeting closed with the singing of God Defend New Zealand. Big news for Greymouth! A Progress League has been formed! The first meeting has been held and was largely attended by some of the most able talent of the town, which realises that something of this nature was urgently needed for the betterment of the' Coast in general. Housewives have realised for some considerable time that something of this nature was required and have shown that they are fully .alive to the situation by sending their washing to a Progressive Laundry, where there is a service to meet the most fastidious need at a reasonable cost.
