It should be very pleasing to tne public of Greymouth that some organisation should be public-spirited enough to undertake the holding of a Winter Show. The Blaketown Home and School Association, feeling the urgent need of this district to develop more its community life, is doing the Spade work and facing the risks of weather and financial loss in oraer to promote a display that will be worthy of the Coast and equal to a city show. Much careful preparation has gone into the production of a very comprehensive schedule, embracing■ vegetables, flowers, collections, decorative section, homecraft, preserves, ery, schoolwork etc. for which liberal prize money is being offered. Children will have an opportunity to disulav their pets and mothers their babies. A procession of decorated vehicles is to leave the Bank oi

New Zealand corner for the Trotting Grounds where the judging will take dace. Many local firms have signL fled their intention to put in attractive displays, for which prize money amounting to £l2 10s is offered. A talented concert party of Maoris from Arahura has kindly agreed to show something of the Maori art in dances, hakas, and songs. All local town schools have consented to stage displays, and’ pagentry, folk dances, drill, orchestral and choral work will result. • n The bands, wheelbarrow derby, pony races, numerous competitions and sideshows should make the after-, noon most enjoyable. The public are therefore asked to enter for the various classes, for the very purpose of the show is to arouse among residents an interest in affairs, occupations, talents, etc., othei - than their own. It is to be hoped that the apathy that resulted in the abandonment of the' summer show has gone for ever- and once again Coast residents will rally to this enterprise and so initiate a show that will be the forerunner of an annual event from Which will radiate much cultural value.
