SWEDISH BALL-BEARINGS

EFFORTS TO CUT OFF GERMAN SUPPLY NEW YORK, May 15. Mr Stanton Griffis, the U.S. Foreign Economic Administration’s spesial representative in Sweden, has been authorised to purchase all ball-bearings produced by the Swedish S.K.F. Trust. This is a move to cut 'off shipments to Germany, says the United Press Washington correspondent. Mr Griffis is authorised to spend thirty million dollars. He is negotiating directly with Swedish manufacturers rather than the Swedish Government. Pressure is being made on the S.K.F. It is part of a British-American campaign to persuade Sweden to cease trading with Germany. Meanwhile it is reported General Marshall has requested American civilian and war agencies to make a sweeping- investigation as to the S.K.F. industries of Philadelphia, an American subsidiary of the Swedish S.K.F. with .a view to seizing the company in the event of evidence being uncovered of German control in this ostensibly Swedish enterprise.
