Novy Showing: “Sherlock Holmes in Washington” & “Get Going.” ’ ,

“SHERLOCK HOLMES IN WASHINGTON.

Flawless performances, a tantalising mystery story, expert direction and a super-abundance of solid dramatic thrills have been blended m “Sherlock Holmes in Washington,’ now showing at the Opera House Basil Rathbone appears as Sherlock and is co-starred with Nigel Bruce, who' portrays his colleague, Doctor Watson. The story is also unusual in that it takes the master sleuth to America for the first time- Much of the picture’s intriguing action is played against a background of the war-time capital of the United States. Marjorie Lord, Joht Archer and Don Terry have important roles in the formidable cast of characters. George Zucco is seen as the chief of a secret enemy group which resorts to violence in its attempts to steal the valuable document. Sherlock accepts the challenge but in. this case he is declareed to face problems which tax his ingenuity almost beyond its capacity. “GET GOING.” Laughs and more laughs are to be found in the new action comedy, “Get Going,” Now showing at Opera House. Robert Paige, Grace McDonald and Vera Vague appear in headline roles. Paige is seen as a personal director in a government bureau where Miss McDonald is employed. He has other duties too, when he decided that she should be Investigated because of her mysterious behaviour. The pretty young schemer is only pretending to be a spy in order to win romantic attention An official investigation reveals the hoax and as an unexpected consequence, a genuine enemy agent ring is exposed and nabbed.

Regent Theatre Now Showing: “Journey for Margaret,” starring Robert Young and Laraine Day.

Against the lurid background of bomb-torn London. “Journey for Margaret,’’ now showing at the Regent Theatre, is a dramatic adaptation of W. L. White’s memorable book of his experiences as an American war correspondent. . Robert Young an r ] Laraine Day are featured, with five-year-old Margaret O’Brien playing the title role aided by Billy Severn, a year her junior. They portray the lovable war orphans adopted by Young in London. The story begins with the arrival of Davis and his wife in London. They are caught in a surprise air raid during which his wife Nora, who is expecting a baby is injured. An operation saves her but’ the doctor informs Davis that his wife can never have a child. Heart-broken, Nora returns to America, while Davis remains to complete his assignment. He rescues the child Peter from his bomb-wrecked home and later meets Margaret at an orphanage conducted by Trudy Strauss (Fay Bainter) and adopts them. How he restores their, bomb shattered nerves and witlrrhe help of Trudy Strauss brings them to America forms an absorbing story.
