AUSTRALIAN WAR LOAN
ANOTHER £l5O MILLIONS RAISED. SYDNEY, May 16. Australia’s first victory loan of 150 million pounds would be fully subscribed with a total of not less than 440,000 individual subscribers, said the Acting Prime Minister (Mr. Forde). The goal of individual subscribers set by the Government for the loan was 750,000. Officially, the loan closed on May 9, but it was decided to accept subscriptions for another week. MEAT SHORTAGE. MELBOURNE, May 16. New Zealand slaughtermen may be brought to Australia to help to increase meat production, according to the Minister of Labour (Mr. Holloway). In an announcement made, following a conference with meat industry representatives- and government officials, the Minister said it had been suggested that because the Australian land New Zealand killing seasons did not clash, New Zealand slaughtermen could be brought to Australia. Mr. Holloway told the conference there I was no possibility of the meat de'mand slackening. Commitments to .Britain had to be met and the needs at home would rise continuously because of the obligations to Australian Sand Allied troops in and beyond Aus- ' tralia'.
