NEW YORK, May 15. Reports indicate that the London Prime Ministers’ Conference has not given sufficient attention to the fact that the United States went into the war as one man the moment the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbour. Our Allies across the Pacific might do well to bear that circumstance In mind, says the “Chicago Tribune,” editorially. It adds: “If Australia and New Zealand want to feel sure of United States support against some future aggressor—history suggests that no great reliance can be placed on a nine-Power treaty or similar document—their Mst bet is to get into the American Union under the American flag. Then, if Australia’s or New Zealand’s territory were attacked the response of this country’s people will be as promot and impressive as the reaction to Pearl Harbour.” “It is not likely that America will invite the Dominions across the Pacific to join us, but if the idea attracts these nations there is nothing to hinder them applying for admission. If they do, the chances of being accepted are good. There would be no social obstacles as would make a union between Britain and America difficult. Australia, like America, is populated bv people of humble origin and manv thousands of American soldiers have made friends in Australia.’’ .
