REEFTON NOTES

(Our Own Correspondent) REEFTON, May 17. Masters D. Buist and R. Honey and the Misses Monica and Marie Buist have left to compete at the Westport Competitions. W.O. 11. G. Gledhill, who has been in charge of Home Guard Battalion Headquarters at Reefton for some time, left for Christchurch yesterday accompanied by his wife and family. While in the district he proved a capable officer and was well liked by everybody. II I. Rawston is spending leave with his parents. Mrs. Cutbush has received word that her son, Keith, is amongst the draft who returned from the Pacific. Mr. Reg Hobbs, the well-known me’cha'nic, has taken over the bus service that operates for the miners of the Burke’s Creek area. The license was formerly held by Mr. T. Nicholls.

Arising out of the visit officials in connection with the reclamation of waste rubber a local committee has been formed, t’he personnel being Messrs A. F. Wells, J? w. Osborne, D. A. Reid, D. McCallum, and V. L. Newcombe (secretary - chairman). Local garages will act as receiving depots, while Reid’s Transport and Golden Coast Dairy Co., will arrange cartage from the outlying districts. In future motorists purchasing tyres will be required to hand in their old ones to the dealers. The reclaimed rubber will be stored in a building in Smith Street until sufficient quantities are on hand to be sent away.
