' Mr. R. Parmenter, of the staff of the Railways Department, Greytmouth, left yesterday for Westport on relieving duty.

Messrs L. Anness and G. Drew, who have completeq their training at the Greymouth Post 'Office, left for Christchurch by last evening’s railcar.

Mr. L. N. Tredennick, of the staff of the. Postal branch, Greymouth Post Office, has received notice of his transfer to Westport and will leave on May 22.

Mr. L. A Clark Manager of the National Bank of New Zealand at Reefton, will leave to-day on transfer to the North Island. His successor,; Mr. Ross, has arrived from Palmer*-’ ton North.

■Mrs. Wingate, widow of LieutenantGeneral Charles Wingate, has given birth to a son in Aberdeen, states a London cablegram. Lieutenant-Gen-eral Wingate, who had commanded the Chindits in Burma, was killed hi March in an air crash.

Second-Lieutenant G. F. Henderson, who received his “wings” on Thursday at Wigram Air Force Station and won a plaque for the highest aggregate marks of the course was educated at the Greymouth Technical High School. While in the Army re represented Canterbury at Rugby football. His mother lives at Runanga.

Squadron-Leader L. H. Parry, who has been appointed Assistant-Director of Air Operations, Air Department, Wellington, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. H.. T.r 'Parry of Christchurch, and formerly of Hokitika. Prior to joining the Territorial Air Force in 1939, he was with his father an active member of the Hokitika Aero Club, and both assisted in civil flying in this territory, Mr. H. T. Parry having- been the first member to own and fly his own ’plane in Hokitika, a Redwing twin-seater bi-plane. At the outbreak of war Squadron-Leader Parry was posted to the Christchurch Squadron, and held successively pppointmertts •as Navigation Officer to the First New Zealand Defence Squadron, and the Air Force stations at Whenuapai and Nelson. In October, 1942, he was loaned for navigational instruction duties to the American Air Force, and, with the formation of the New Zealand Transport Air Service,_ was selected in a crew to pioneer its development in the Pacific. Amongst the trial flights was a record one from Honolulu to Auckland, in less than 24 hours. Squadron-Leader Parry has logged 3,000 flying hours, of which over 2,000 hours were operational. His brother, Austin, is also in the Air Force, and Is completing his training in Canada.
