LOCAL BODY ELECTIONS

Grey County Candidates (MEETING AT NGAHERE. Last evening a meeting in support of the candidature of Mr. Frederick Donovan, of Ngahere, for the Grey County Council, in the Eastern Riding, was held at Ngahere. Mr. G. | E. Logie was voted to the chair, and there was a representative attendance. Those present included four other intending candidates in the County elections, Messrs W. Fisher (Nelson Creek), J. Ryan (Otira Line), H. G. Carter (Kamaka), F. L. Turley (Greymouth) and Dreckman (Otira Line). At the invitation of the chairman they took seats on the platform, and later announced their candidature. I Mr. Donovan detailed his policy, and , received a good hearing from the meeting. Mr. Fisher stated that he would stand for re-election for the Eastern Riding to the County Council. Hospital Board and Power Board. Mr. Carter stated that he was again contesting the Eastern Riding seats on the County Council and Hospital Board. Mr. Turley announced that he would contest the riding seat on the Harbour Board. Mr. Ryan stated he was a candidate for the County Council and the Power Boa'rd. Mr. Dreckman announced that he was a candidateo for the Hospital Board. ROSS BOROUGH CANDIDATES. ROSS, May 12. Mayoral and Council nominations for the Borough of Ross closed at noon to-day, apd the following are the names of the candidates: — For Mayor: Mr. John Holmes; Mr. Kenneth Ogilvie May (present Mayor). For the Borough Council: Messrs Andrew Thomas Cumming, Bartholomew Gough, Francis Patrick Houlahan, Patrick John Minehan, Herbert Ross Mitchell, Gordon Simon Rae. As only six members are required, the above candidates will ;be declared elected. For Hokitika Harbour Board: Mr. William Henry Stopforth. Only one representative required. HOKITIKA CANDIDATES. HOKITIKA, May 12. Up till noon to-day, the following Municipal nominations had been lodged with the Returning Officer at the Council Chambers: — Mayor of Hokitika: Mr A. R. Elcock (present Mayor). Hokitika Borough Council: Messrs C. Caliari (Deputy Mayor), D. P. Stuart (sitting member), S. J. Roberts arid H. C. Peart. Westland Hospital Board: Mr. P. R. Whitford. Greymouth Harbour Board (Combined Boroughs): Mr. E. W. Heenan (sitting member). Hokitika Harbour Board: Mr. H. C. Harvey (sitting member). |
