ELDERLY IMAN SENTENCED. P.A. AUCKLAND, May 10. • ,An elderly man collapsed when sentenced in the Supreme Court, today, ana had to be assisted away. He was Reuben Branwell Parker, 60, who was given four years’ reformative detention for three offences, which he had , admitted, of indecently assaulting a girl aged 11: Judge Callan described it as a sad case. Medical evidence had shown Parker’s rence of responsibility was impaired. PARCEL TRAFFIC INCREASE. °.A. WELLINGTON, May 11. The phenomenal increase in the ’olume of parcel traffic handled by the Fost Office since the outbreak of war was commented on by the Post-master-General (Pion. P. C. Webb) to-day. Pie said that in 1939, 44,750 parcels weighing 172,946 lbs. had been posted overseas. Since then there had been a steady annual increase, until last year 1,556,760 parcels, weighing 7,652,800 lbs. were'despatched. Of the parcels posted in 1943, 609,221 went to the Forces in the Pacific, 523,630 to the Forces in the Middle East, 108,836 to Servicemen in Britain, 26,955 to Servicemen in Canada, 20,561 to orisoners of war, and 214,030 to civilians in Britain.
