[Our Own Correspondent.! The Runanga Women’s Institute held their monthly meeting in the Druids’ Hall, Mrs Barker presiding. New members and visitors were welcomed. Mrs Smith read the aspirations. The motto was: “If you can’t make light of your troubles keep them dark.” The roll-call was: ‘My favourite actor and why.” Mrs Paterson, delegate to the Council, read her report. It was reported that a social afternoon had been held in April to raise funds for soldiers' parcels, and it was decided to send a parcel to each of the local boys overseas. The social half hour was a play, “Maggie’s Birthday Party,” produced by Mrs Tinning, with Scotch members taking part. A Monte Carlo was won by Mrs Braithwaite and Mrs Cairney, a 'lucky spot by Mrs Farquhar and Mrs Dalziel, lucky seat by Mrs Smith, .and a fund competition by Mrs Braithwaite. Competition results were as follows: Sugar bag article. Mrs Tinning 1, Mrs Griffiths 2; biscuits without butter or eggs, Mrs Griffiths 1, Mrs Armstrong 2. Runanga Miniature R’ifle Club’s opening shoot held on Monday evening, resulted: G. Hildebrand 68, D. McDonald 66, J. Critchley 64, J. Sharpe 64, J. Smith 63, F. Brown 63, W. Reid 63, B. Henderson 61.
