8.0.W. RUGBY, May 2. A South-east Asia communique reports many clashes with tine enemy in the Palel area. The Japanese were heavily repulsed. There were minor clashes in the vicinity of Ukhrul also in Arakan and in the eastern’ foothills of the Mayu Range. West of Buthidaung. concentrated attacks on the enemy positions were made from the air and R..A.F. units bombed Maymyo. No aircraft is missing. No important change in the Kohima area is reported, but 14th. Army units are manoeuvring for position in preparation tor an attack on Japanese positions. There has been a flare-up in the fighting in the Imphal area. General Stilwell’s Chinese and American column in the north, supported b'v an American tank unit outflanked a village near a big Japanese base. Manv miles to the south-west the Chindits —Allied airborne forces—have blocked a supply railway and resisted every attempt to dislodge them. —--
