FIRE BRIGADE RESIGNS

CHRISTCHURCH, May 3. A he res i u lt of a dispute arising oyer the equipment which the brigade considers inadequate, members of the Akaroa Volunteer Fire Brigade redS J, 10 m to-day. Tire Mayor, Mr. y. R. E. Davis, has decided to call applications for a new brigade, and arrangements have been made for exmembers to act in the event of a fire. A letter sent to the Borough Council states: “It seems to us that to carry on under present conditions is only lulling people into a false sense of security Our main reason for disband’ng is that we applied for a new engine which appears not to be forthcoming till after the war, notwithstanding that we offered financial assistance which you would not accept."
