Racing Notes Outstanding Performances: By winning a.division of the Trial Handicap and the Visitors' Handicap at Invercargill, Elation showed himself to be a horse full of promise. In both events Elation was in front from .barrier rise to judge. Hat Trick to Trainer: The Nightcaps owtaer-tila'iner, ,B. Rushton, brought off the “hat trick” when he won the Southland Handicap with Certainty, a division of the Trial Handicap with Dundee Sandy, and the Waikiwi Handicap with Freckles. Eiffleton Hack Top Weight: Dash 0’ Dink, who is top weight in the six furlong hack race at Ashburton has not been in a place in his six starts this season. The fact that there is only 131bs between the top and bottom horses is an indication of the form shown by those nominated. Consistent: r The latest form of Foxhaven has been consistent. He was a good third in the United Nations’ Handicap at Riccarton. and perhaps he may offer most opposition to Gamble in the Ashburton Handicap. Destroyed: During the running of the Churchill Steeples at the Taranaki meeting Huirangi Sun broke a leg just below the knee when racing on the flat which necessitated his destruction. The accident robbed the race of a lot of interest as Huirangi Sun was going well at the time. Badly Away: Usually a fast beginner, Peter Gregoi' was very slow to get going in the President’s Handicap at Te Rapa, and although he made up ground in the middle stages he was never a possibility. The Hunting Song gelding appreciates winter conditions and as each race is bringing him on, he may get some of the money very shortly. Stock Exchange Pays Out: The Myosotis gelding, Stock Exchange, returned his supporters over 25 to 1 w'hen he took the distance event for hacks at Waikato. Never far from the leading bunch, he followed Prince Baffles, Corsac and Night Comedy into the straight, and taking charge just below the distance, he hung on well to beat Prince Baffles by a neck, stock Exchange has shown good form over hurdlesthis season, and he is now being discussed as a prospect for the Great Northern Hurdles. Improving Hurdler: One of the most promising of the hack hurdlers in the north is Spring Day. Only a four-year-old, he is a son of Hazrat and Spring Acre. Spring Day, after being well bdck in the early stages, came home well to get fourth in the Frankton Hurdles at Te Rapa last Saturday. With racing- he is gaining confidence, and he appeals as one likely to pick u* a hack hurdle race.
