HOKITIKA, April 28.
Mr C. L. Turk, who has been, engineer to the Westland Hospital Board for the oast five years, will leave Hokitika‘early next week to take up a position with the Internal Marketing Department at Christchurch. During Mr. Turk’s term with the Board many improvements have been carried out at the hospital, including the installation of a new boiler, and extensive building operations, which necessitated extension of the heating and other hospital services. At the last meeting of the Board the Chairman ano. members paid a high tribute to Mr. Turk for his faithful service. Up till now very little interest has been shown in the local body elections to take place on May 27. So far some two hundred electors names have been added to the Hokitika municipal roll and about 250 names have been added to the Westland County roll. Nominations for Municipal cilices will close on May 13. The municipal roll closes to-morrow. Before Mr. G. G. Chisholm (Warden), at a sitting of the Warden’s Court at Hokitika, 'the following applications were dealt with: Nancy Helene Thompson, application for special sea beach claim.—Granted. Samuel John Phillips and Henry Phillips, application for license for a dam. —Granted. Kanieri Gold Dredging Coy., eight applications for prospecting, licenses each of 100 acres, situated in Block V, Kanieri Survey District.—Granted. Lily and Cyril Arthur Mackley, application for an ordinary prospecting license over an area situated in Block X, Waimea Survey District.— Granted. William F'airhall, application for a license for a dam at Nugget Gully, Totara Survey DistrictGranted. . James Howat, application for renewal of license for a residence site at, Arthurstown.—Granted. Timothy Joseph O’Connor, application for license for a residence site at Rimu. —Granted. Harold Sydney Bright, application for a' license for an extended sea beach claim at Bruce Bay. —Recommended.' David Schramm, application for a license for a sea beach claim at Bruce Bay.—Recommended. , ~ There was quite a muster at the Hokitika Railway Station to welcome returning soldiers. The only one to arrive was Private W. C. Mclntyre, of Kanieri,' but Major Ferguson and Lance-Cornora'l M. Moore were listed to arrive but they were delayed enroute to Hokitika. The Mayor (Mr. A. R. Elcock) and the President, Secretary and Executive members of the Returned Services Association were present and members of the Kanieri Committee, who extended Private Mclntyre a hearty welcome.
