Provision of Work

Following his interview yesterday with the Greymouth Harbour Board regarding the state of the port, the Minister of Marine, Hon. J. O’Brien, was met by representatives of the Borough Council, who brought before him the question of finding work for the Greymouth watersiders, who, because of the adverse state of the bar, are at present without employment. The deputation comprised tne Mayor, Mr. F. A. Kitchingham, Councillors J. B. Kent and F. Boustridge, and Mr. A. J. Fairmaid (Borough Engineer). Mr. Fairmaid said that work could probably be found for some thirtysix men providing subsidies promised b v the Government were forthcomMr. O’Erien, in reply, promised that he would approach the different Ministers concerned in order to have these subsidies made available.
