JAPANESE FLEET
BIDING ITS TIME. (Rec. 6.30.) WASHINGTON, Jan. 8. : Colonel Knox, U.S. Navy' Secretary, at a conference, with press reporters, gave a wanting that it would be foolish to assume that the Japanese fleet is afraid to fight. He said: “It probablv remains in hiding because the time does not suit its purpose, and it is waiting until odds are in its favour. But while it remains cooped up, our ships, men and planes are growing. When the Japanese come out there can be only one ultimate result.” . . n ■- Colonel Knox asserted: “Admiral Halsey i<? too conservative in estimating the ratio of casualties at ten Japanese to one American. Enemy losses in Cape Gloucester area were almost twenty to one.”
