U.S.A. DISSATISFIED

WITH BOLIVIA AND ARGENTINE ; WASHINGTON, Jan. 8. Senator Hull, Secretary of State, in a statement said: Information now available here ' increasingly strengthens the belief that forces outside Bolivia and unfriendly to the defence of American Republics inspired and aided the Bolvian revolution. He added that at present there is consultation between nineteen American countries concerning the origin of the revolution. This will soon permit each Government to reach its own conclusions.

The United Press says: Although Mr Hull has not identified the forces he mentioned, it is suspected that the revolution was engineered with the aid of Axis forces in Argentina. Argentina is the only country . to recognise the new Bolivian regime. The “New York Times” Washington correspondent says: Mr. Hull’s statement indicated that nineteen Government already had agreed to withhold recognition from the Government of Bolivia. Furthermore it is understood they may, take action towards further isolating Argentina. Britain’s collaboration will be necessary, because of Britain’s strong trade connections with Argentina. This is believed to have been the subject of a conference to-day attended by Mr Hull, Mr Morgenth.au, Mr Rowley, Lord Halifax and Mr Ben Smith (chairman of the British Supply Council). NEW YORK. Jan. 8.

A Buenos Aires socialist newspaper “La Vanguardia.” announced that it was voluntarily ceasing publication because the Government decree of January 6 rendered it impossible for it to perform its Social duty. It added: Dissolution of political parties, also imposition of Catholic dogma on schools and people and regulation, of press, radio, and cinemas is definitely a great irvespirable atmosphere for a . Social newspaper upholding truth, illuminating and inspiring consciences. The “New York Times” Buenos Aires correspondent says: The Argentine press is pretty thoroughly cowed .after seven months of . military dictatorship, but to their honour both the greatest Buenos Aires democratic dailies, Nacion and Prenso, published editorials stating they intend to continue as hitherto, printing news as truthfully as possible, and commenting thereon as dispassionately as they can.
