BLACKBALL NOTES

[Our Own Correspondent]. A holiday exodus has begun, (Blackball people travelling to places as distant as Auckland and Otago. The mines in the district will close to-day (Thursday) and no doubt many mcr e people will have left on holidays bent by the end of the week. . Pte. D. Jamieson who returned from the Middle East, and was for a time an inmate of Hanmer Springs Hospital, is visiting his father ,Mr H. Jamieson. He returns to Hanmer after th e holidays. Mr G. Anderson has left for Auckland to visit his parents. His mother’s health has been giving anxiety. Mr and Mrs J. Penman have gone to Auckland where they will spend the holidays. Mr .and Mrs C. Lansdowne are spending the holidays with relatives in Ranfurly, Central Otago. Mrs J. McNicol, accompanied by her daughter, Mrs J. Bateman and child have left for Hamilton on a visit, to her son .and daughter-in-law.

Mr R. Fleming, of Ohai, Southland, is spending the Xmas holidays with Mr and Mrs R. Colquhuon. Mr A. MacGougan has left for Hamilton and Auckland, where he will spend the holidays. Mrs M. Oliver, of Auckland.' and her family have arrived in Blackball on a visit to her parents, Mr and Mrs C. Quibell. Mr and Mrs L. Allen have left for Palmerston North to visit their daughter and son-in-law, Mr and Mrs J. Forsyth. Mrs G. Murdoch has gone to Christchurch on holiday bent. Mr and Mrs A. Grindle and son, accompanied by their nephew', Mr Keith Cochrane, have left for Nelson where they will "spend Xmas. Dr and Mrs Aylward accompanied by their daughter, Miss Jane Aylward, have left on a short holiday visit to the glaciers, South Westland. . 1

Mrs J. Haisty, Christchurch, was last week the guest her e of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr and JVfrs J'. Haistv. junr. Mrs Fitzgerald accompanied by. her sister, Miss O’Flaherty, is on al holiday visit to Wellington. .Mr Stewart Odering, Christchurch was a visitor during the week as the guest of Mrs Adamson. News was received on Monday of the death at K.aramea of Mr Cyril Turk, second son of Mr and Mrs Jas Turk, Blackball. A butcher by trade deceased had also served his time as a baker and was a man of outstanding ability and much esteemed by all who knew him. Some years ago ’he left this district and took over a business in Karamea, later taking? on dairy farming of which he made a great success. He leaves a widow and large family as also his father and mother, one brother and one sister, to all of whom mo.S't sincere sympathy is extended The’Blackball correspondent takes this opportunity of extending the comoliments of the season to Argus readers generally.
