LABOUR MATTERS

MR. EDEN'S .ADDRESS RUGBY, Dec. 20. The Foreign Secretary (Mr. Eden) visited a conference of the International Labour Office governing body in London, to-day. Mr. Eden said that if the International Labour Organisation had not existed we should have found it necessary to try to create it now. “because it is the tripartite organisation which represents the Government, employers, and workers that can help give effect 1.0 social objectives. It is good not only that this organisation exists, but that it continues to enjoy the confidence of the organised workers and organised employers of the freedom-loving peoples all over the world. Their organisation was in a very real sense an organisation of the people. They also kept happily clear of political controversy and worked all the time in that field of social betterment where they nad unrivalled expert experience and expert knowledge. With the developments of science there must be moments when we wondered were there to be a third war what could be left. It seems t 6 me we have just this last chance after this next victory. All immense responsibility rests on those in whose hands power lies in the coming years. An immence responsibility rests on your organisation.”
