? Private Ralph May is home from camp for the Xmas vacation.

Driver Joseph McKenzie, who for the past few weeks has been visiting friends in South Westland, has returned to Kumara for Xmas. Mrs. M. McGill of Christchurch is visiting her brother, Mr, D. Clark, Courthouse Hotel. The proposal to construct a swimming bath at the State School appears to have the whole-hearted support of citizens. Many voluntary contributions have already been handed to the committee. Offers to excavate the site have been suggested by several young men and the suggestion is also made that it be made a large standard size bath. Several horses are being trained on the local racecourse and trainers report the track to be in excellent order.

Word was received on Monday by Misses A. and M. Corbett that their brother, Mr. Michael Corbett has died in Christchurch. The late Mr. Corbett was a well known resident for many years at the Taramakau Settlement and afterwards at Dillmanstown, where he managed a flaxmill at the Taramakau River. Kumara people at present in the Westland Hospital are Mrs. D. Hanna. Mrs. E. T. Hammersley, Mr. John Pool (junior) and Mr. McLean. , Mrs. Patterson, of Shirley, is spending the Xmas vacation with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Goad. Numerous Kumara people are departing for other parts to spend the Xmas vacation. Mr. and Mrs. Hunter have left for Invercargill. Mr. and Mrs Birss for Waimate. Mr. an cl Mrs R. Kerr, Mr. A. Kerr and Mr. N. Hahn left for Auckland; and Mrand Mrs. Becker for Christchurch. The Mayor (Mr. A. B. Spiers) presided at the monthly meeting of the Kumara Borough Council. Also present were Crs. J. Murphy, F. Wise, W. J. McNabb, B. Becker, R. N. May_, and W. Lawrence. It was decided to approve of the nomination of Mr F. A., Kitchingham as representative of the West Coast boroughs on tne committee of the South Island Local Bodies’ Conference.
