EMPLOYEE LOSES LEG

SIR MALCOLM CAMPBELL’S MAN TRAPS.

LONDON, Dec. 14.

The racing motorist, Major Sir Malcolm Campbell, at East Grinstead, was sent for trial at the next Quarter Sessions, on a charge of placing on his country estate in Sussex, a spring gun calculated to inflict grievous bodily harm on a trespasser.

T'he prosecution stated that several of these guns were set on the estate with danger notices. The guns, which were Campbell’s own device were fixed by tripwires and fire blank cartridges containing red ochre, designed to mark the trespasser’s clothes so he could be identified. An estate employee caught his foot in the tripwire and had to have his leg amputated as the result of his injuries. Campbell pleaded not guilty. He reserved his defence and was granted bail.
