GREY POWER BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING Mr J. Mulcare presided over last evening’s meeting of the Grey Electric Power Board. Also present were Messrs W. Clayton, P. Blanchfield, J. Smeaton, J. Unwin, ~W- H. Parfitt, J. B. Kent, W. E. Pring, W. Fisher, the secretary (Mr W. S. McClymont) and the engineer (Mr Sinclair Trotter). Pte. G. R. Goy wrote thanking the board for its letter of good wishes. The Dunedin Chamber of Commerce wrote forwarding resolutions dealing with the encouragement of new industries in the South Island and with the development of electric power, which it was considered would be a stimulus to new industries.

It was decided to thank the Chamber for its letter and to express the agreement of the board with the resolutions.

The Town Clerk, Christchurch, wrote enclosing minutes of the meeting of South Island local body representatives held on November 3 and 4 to discuss ways and means to advance the interests of the South Island. Mr Fisher also reported briefly on his attendance at the conference.

The report was received. The Electric Power Boards , and Supply Authorities’ Association wrote forwarding copies of remits passed at the annual conference. It was decided to endorse a recommendation to the executive that the annual conference be held in July.

Another remit referred the matter of commissioner control to the executive for a full report to be circulated some weeks before the next conference.

The Finance Committee’s report stated that accounts amounting to £lBl2 14s 5d (paid £ll9l Bs, to be paid £621 6s sd). had been passed for payment. The report was adopted. The secretary reported that the commission of enquiry to consider the petition of Kumara Junction residents to have the area transferred from Westland Electric Power (Board to Grey Electric Power Board, had met on December 10. ENGINEER'S REPORT The report of the engineer (Mr Sinclair Trotter) for the period from November 11 to December 8 stated: The lines staff has been engaged on general maintenance in Shakespeare St., Mackay St., Blaketown, Cobden, Ngahere and Ahaura. The annual earth testing and general sub-sta-tion maintenance for the current year has been completed and a small amount of general maintenance on pole-type transformers has been undertaken in the worshop. Since the last meeting four new applications for power have been received and permits issued. Seven new consumers hav e been connected. Applications now' total 5257 and consumers total 5357. One temporary power connection was made for the month and one disconnection was made. The Wiring Department and electricians have been fully employed attending to consumers’ installations and appliances. Some trouble has been experienced with opossums in variout parts of the district, the animals appearing to be very numerous som e areas. However, no serious interruption has resulted. A short interruption occurred on the CameronsMarsden 11,000-volt feeder at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, 7th inst., due to' the failure of a dredge trailing cable. The load continues to be well above last year’s average at this time. The load for the month is: Light 2.820 k.w., heat and iron 28.000 k.w., water , heat 1.500 k.w., power 31.75 h.p„ I cooking 14.700 k.w. The total load for the month was 2415.570 k.w.. making a total load to date of. • 33,102.986 k.w. I The report of the secretary (Mr! McClymont) stated: Cash receipts | since my last report total £9822 4s 3d, helping to make a credit in the , Power Fund Bank Account of £13,081| 16s 4d. There is still £2OOB 15s 2d owing by consumers on account of financially assisted range sales totalling £11,363 19s 3d. The December 1 large power readings showed a total of £3730 Is 4d All th e November 1 accounts have been paid. November readings covered Group B, country districts, and recorded £5324 6s 7d revenue, inclusive of' November 1 large power readings. The chairman expressed to board members, the staff, and the Press, best wishes for the festive season, and th? wish that when next the board met the war would be just an unpleasant memory.
