Misses J. Larcombe, and D. Devescovi, pupils of the Greymouth Convent School, ’are spending term holidays with their parents. Mr, Frank Woods, who has been spending a holiday in Christchurch, has returned.

Mrs. C. Cockerell, who has been spending a holiday in Christchurch, has returned.

Mrs. N. Stewart (Christchurch) was a week-end visitor to the tov/n--ship as the guest of Mr. and Mrs. L. Kennedy. Master Len Stephens, a former pupil of the Waiuta school has obtained a scholarship .at St. Andrew’s College, Christchurch. Messrs J. Hill, P. Downes and D. McDonald, who are inmates of the Reefton Hospital, are making satisfactory progress. Miss Norah Hocking, who underwent an operation at the Reefton Hospital on Tuesday, is making satisfactory progress. In the annual examinations at St. Andrew’s College (Christchurch). Reg Baran, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Baran,, obtained the following awards: Ist. French, Ist. Chemistry. Ist. Intermediate Commercial, 3rd. Mathematics. Re? is an ex-pupi! of the Waiuta School, and was coached for his scholarship by Mr. T. J. Lwellyn present headmaster. The Waiuta Red Cross Committee have forwarded a further sum of £7 3s, the result of two competitions, to the Provincial Council of the Order of St. John and Red Cross, for the Sick and Wounded . Fund. This amount is to be credited to the Inangahua District Patriotic Committee. The winner of the competition were Messrs Tom Sullivan and Stan> ley Williams. A cheque for £6 being the Waiuta quota towards N.Z. expenses has been forwarded to Greymouth Sub-Centre. A dressing gown and hospital coat were handed in by Mrs. J. Robinson.

Mrs. P. Darby, who has been on the staff of the Empire Hotel, for a considerable time, leaves early in the New Year, to tpke up essential work in Wellington. Prior to severing her connection with the staff, Mrs. Darby was entertained at a social evening bv the boarders and staff, and was the recipient of a suitable gift. A pleasant evening, which ’ concluded with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne” was spent. At the monthly meeting of the Waiuta Soldiers’ Entertainment Committee, it was decided to forward a parcel of tobacco and cigarette papers to the local boys overseas, through the National Patriotic Fund Board. The usual Christmas grant was made to local boys in camp in New Zealand. It was decided to hold a shop dav in the Institute Hall on Saturdav. February 19. to be followed o.v a dance in the evening. Several letters of thanks and appreciation for parcels received, were read fro.m local bovs serving overseas. The resignation of -Mrs. J. Robinson, who is leaving the district, was accepted with regret, and tributes were paid to her good work on the committee by Mr. J. Rodden (Chairman), and Mr. E. J. Allen. A motion of thanks and appreciation for Mrs Robinson’s work was carried by acclamation. The parcel collection taken un on last pay-day realised the sum of £3O. The date of the next meeting was’ set down tor early in January. ,
