RATION COUPONS

CLOTHING, WOOL, AND LINEN. WELLINGTON, Dec. 1. Details of coupons to be available for the purchase of clothing, wool and household linen from’ December 1 and the following six-monthly period were given to-day by the Rationing Controller (Mr. J. E. Thomas). The basis of release of 26 coupons each half-year will be maintained, but this time the coupons are divided into three sections as follow:— Clothing coupons: Blue coupons Nos. 1 to 20, marked “Clothing coupon” or “Infant Clothing” on sheet 10 of the third series of the ration book are available for the purchase of all clothing and household linen, including baby linen, but not for any type of wool. Wool: Blue coupons Nos. 1 to 3, marked “Wool coupons” or “Infant Wool” on the same sheet of ration books, are available for the purchase of both wool (other than baby wool) and clothing. 1 Household linen: Red household linen coupons Nos. 1 to 3 on sheet 11 of the ration book are available for the purchase of household linen only, and may not be used for either wool or clothing. People living in hotels and boardinghouses where linen is provided, will surrender household linen coupons Nos. 1 to 3 to the proprietor before the end of December, and the proprietor is required to return these coupons to the Rationing Controller, to be held as credit against future applications for linen for the establishment.

Ail 26 of the coupons now released will be available until further notice. The “E” coupons are cancelled on November 30. Clothing, wool and infant linen coupons in the supplementary ration books have been available since the book was issued. Baby wool is reserved for sale onlyt against baby wool coupons in the supplementary ration book. This wool is defined as all two-ply and three-ply wools branded “baby,” “nursery,” or “infant” and Shetland wool in white, baby pink, or baby blue.

■Another alteration to the clothing rationing scheme is a reduction in the coupon value of heavy wools, such as wheeling, double-knitting Totem and blanket wools, which are now rated at Boz per coupon, against 4oz per coupon for fingering wools; thus double the quantity of heavytype wools mav be purchased on available wool coupons. Instead of making an additional issue of clothing coupons to children under 16 a special schedule of coupon values for children aged five to 15 has been compiled, to have effect from December’ 1. These coupon values are proportionately lower than adult values, thus enabling a greater quantity of clothing to be purchased for children of school ages with the same number of coupons. Coupon ratings apply to all clothing generally sold as children’s clothing with the exception of infant clothing, which is already under a special schedule of coupon values.
