HOKITIKA NOTES

[Our Own Correspondent]. HOKITIKA, Dec. 1. Messrs H. and N. Friend, or OKarito who have been on a visit to the East Coast returned .on Tuesday. Mr. A. R. Elcock (Mayor of Hokitika) and Mrs. Elcock who have peen on a visit to the North Islanu, returned ypsterday. , Mr E W. Heenan returned to Hokitika on Tuesday from Wellington. Mr and Mrs. H. Adamson returned to-day from Christchurch and proceeded on to Wataroa. Mr. T. Taylor returned from Christchurch on Tuesday. The Gael which left Hokitika on Saturday morning, worked the port of Okuru. and discharged her cargo. That port is in very good order at oresent. The Gael got out .ot the port on the same tide as that on which she entered it. She is at present loading timber at Bruce Bay for Wellington, and is due to return to Hokitika' early next week. The owners are making an endeavour to arrange for renewal of portions of her D’esel machinery early next year. The weather in Westland has been very pleasant, with warm sunny days during the past four weeks. Only isolated showers have fallen, and then mostly during the evenings. Yesterday morning rain fell, but the afternoon was fine and warm. The gardens are very forward and should vield excellent crops. Country residents require rain to replenish their tanks. Swimming is popular, the baths being crowded each day.
