TEACHER TRAINEES
10,000 YEARLY IN BRITAIN. RUGBY, Nov. 30. A yearly target figure of 10,000 trainee teachers (8,000 men and 2,000 women) was needed to make good war losses, said Sir Robert Wood, DeputybSecretary to the Board of Education. Proposing an emergency scheme for training teachers immediately after the war, he said the loss of the new intake by 1945 alone would amount to 20.000 teachers & apart from those wishing to retire. Fighting service departments would > ■ be asked to assist the Board of Edu- \ cation to select candidates.
