VEGETABLE SURPLUS

From State Scheme ' NOT BEING PLOUGHED IN P.A. WELLINGTON, Dec. 1. A statement has been reported in the north that it was the policy of the Department of Agriculture ifo plough in all vegetables grown by the Government that were not taken by the armed forces, so that the sale of the vegetables grown by the Government would not conflict with the marketing of these vegetables by commercial growers. This statement was contradicted by the Minister of Agriculture, Hon. B. Roberts, to-night. Mr Roberts said tlia* those vegetables grown which were not required bv the armed forces were either sold on the local market, or dehydrated, or placed in cool storage. He stated that the vegetables production scheme had been extended to cater for the forces in the Pacific area, and when the shipments did not coincide with crop maturity, the available supplies would be handed to the Internal Marketing; Division.
