HOKITIKA NOTES

[Our Own Correspondent]. HOKITIKA, Nov. 24. Rev Father R. O’Gorman, of Ricearton, arrived in Hokitika on a visit this morning. He will spend a week in the district before returning. Messrs Norman and H Friend, of Okarito, are visiting Hokitika, and proceed’ to Christchurch to-morrow morning. . Mr. A. R. Elcock, Mayor of Hokitika is attending the Dominion conference of the Patriotic Board. Later he will proceed io Wairarapa for a few days, and will return on Tuesday. A large number of Hokitika and South Westland people will visit Christchurch for the N.Z. Cup. The local Revue Company, under direction of Miss A. P. Duff, gave a performance this evening at Ross in aid of the Patriotic Fund. The company has already assisted the Hokitika Committee by raising nearly £lOO, and also assisted in the Greymouth Carnival recently. At a meeting on Sunday evening at Mr Peart’s studio in the interest of youths it was decided to form a Cobbers’ Club, with a motto of service,, and to be open to youths over the age of sixteen. Officers elected were: President: Mr. H. C. Peart; Vice Presidents: Messrs A. R. Elcock, A. Lawn, J. Hutchison, J. Devaney, E. Heenan, A. Neil, R. Cooper. A. J. Harper; secretary: Mr. J. Gibson; treasurer: Mr. Ray Barltrop; committee: Messrs R. Barltrop, J. Connors, A. Tulloch, A. Tinnetti, G. Roberts and E. Stoop. The fee was fixed at 5s ver year, with a charge of Is per month. Mr. Harper gave an interesting talk on gymnastics and was accorded a vote of thanks. A constitution will be drawn up at the next meeting.
