Opera House Finally To-night: “Here Comes Happiness” and “The Story of the Vatican.” Next attraction (commences to-morrow Friday): “Rose of Tralee.” “ROSE OF TRALEE.” Every once in a while a film comes along that lives in the memories of all who see it—such a film is “Rose of Tralee,” commencing at the Opera House to-morrow (Friday). There is a charming, heart-warming theme throughout this picture and the joys and sorrows of Paddy O’Brien, his wife Mary and baby daughter Rose make it grand entertainment. Paddy O’Brien is played by John Longden who, it will be remembered, came to Australia some time ago to make the film, “The Silence of Dean Maitland. " Mary, his wife, is played by Lesley Brook whose performance is touching and sincere, and his daughter, Rose, is portrayed by that engaging lass, Angela Glynne who will be remembered for her line performance in “Those Kids From Town.” There are many lovely old songs in “Rose of Tralee” and numbered among these are “Macushla,” “Rose of Tralee,” “Mountains o’ Mourne" and “Dear Little Shamrock.” Also prominent in the cast are Talbot O’Farrell and Morris Harvey as a pair of lodg-ing-house cronies; George Carney as the villain of the piece and lovely Virginia Keiley, who portrays the role of an American girl who is also in ]oye with Paddy. “Rose of Tralee” is a film which offers everything, romance, laughter, songs and comedy. Regent Theatre Finally To-night: “Maci" About Music.” Commencing Friday:— “Panama Hattie,” starring Red Skelton and Ann Southern. Taking, its place at the top with the season’s best musicals, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer’s “Panama Hattie," starring Red Skelton and Ann Southern commences at the Regent Theatre on Friday. Rich in elaborate numbers, tempered with a good down-to-earth story, revolving around the romance between Ann . Southern and Dan Dailey jnr., and the crazy antics of [ Red Skelton, Rags Ragland and Ben i Blue as the sailors, the film coni tains every conceivable element of I entertainment. As Panama Hattie, 1 a night club entertainer with a heart I of gold, Ann Southern has one of the best roles of her career. Red Skelton adds quite a few laurels to his fame, and Virginia O’Brien swings from her dead-pan singing in a role you will enjoy. Dailey does an excellent job in his straight role. Others who lend strength to an excellent cast include Alan Mowbray, Jackie Horner, Marsha Hunt and the Berry Brothers.
