MANSLAUGHTER CHARGE

WELLINGTON TRAM CAPSIZE. P.A. WELLINGTON, Oct. 19. As a sequel to the capsizing of a fully-laden tramcar at Kilbirnie on June 12 last, Donald Norman MacLean, aged 33, the driver of the tram was charged in the Supreme Court to-day with committing manslaught er, by causing the death of Leading Aircraftsman James Edward Ken. Twenty-eight other passengers were injured in the smash. Mr. Justice Smith presided. Evidence along the lower Court lines was given by the conductress and passengers, who said that the tram, before the capsize, was travelling exceptionally fast. The hearing continues to-morrow.
