MISSING AUSTRALIANS
HOW MANY ARE PRISONERS?
(Rec. 11.5) CANBERRA. Sept 23. No news has yet been obtained by the Commonwealth Government oi 5127 officers and men of the A.I.F. who have been reported as missing in military operations against the Japanese. In announcing this today, the Army Minister, Mr F. M. Forde, said: “It is now known that 18,156 Australian soldiers are held as prisoners of war by Japanese. Every endeavour is being made to obtain information about men reported as missing.”
