[Our Own Correspondent.] I Mrs J. A. McEwin and Sister P. McEwin are spending, a holiday in Napier. > ‘ i Miss Bremner. Dental Nurse, is visiting the local school. Mrs C. Read is spending a holiday : in Christchurch. I Due to a defect in the pumping system at the Blackwater Mine, work was suspended on Tuesday. A resumption was made on Wednesday morning, with the bulk of the men engaged in repair work at wages rates. 1 Pat Lines, aged 18 years, son ot 'Mr and Mrs W. Lines, met .with an injury during the week-end while on a deer stalking expedition. The suf- . fever was removed to the Reefton Hospital where he is making satis- / factory progress. I Mr Jack Hill who is also an inmate of the Reefton Hospital, is making favourable progress. Mrs W. Gardiner left on Tuesday morning on a holiday visit to South-’ land.

Sgt. W. Folej’, N.Z.E.F., on furlough, was ;a week-end visitor to the township as the guest of Mr and Mrs W. Gardiner. I Messrs S. P. Williams, j. McGreigor, D. G. Becker and E. Elgin visit:ed Motueka last week-end to attend a meeting of the Motueka L.R.C. I Mrs P. Connors, who has been spending a few days in Greymouth, has now returned. I In common with other parts ot ;the West Coast, Waiuta has experii enced very heavy rain during the past week. Apart from the flooding of some of the working places in the mine no other damage has been reported. Residents are reminded of the dance to be held in the Miners’ Hall on Saturday night under the aspices of the Waiuta branch of the Labour Party. A loud speaker system is being installed, and election results will be announced as they come to hand. Come and celebrate the obliteration of Syd Holland and party from -the political life of New Zealand. A welcome home social evening was tendered to Sgt. W. Foley and Pte. Joe Maka. N.Z.E.F. on furlough. in the Miners’ Hall on Saturday evening. Despite atrocious weather a good crowd was present. Each soldier was presented with an envelope by Mr J. Rodden, chairman, Mr H. Dainer, president R.S.A., also spoke. Both returned men suitably responded. Music was provided by Mrs Devescovi, Mrs S. Ramsden, Mrs R. Robertson and Mr E. Faulsham. while Mr T. Sullivan had charge of the floor. A competition held during the evening was won by Mrs M. Hopkins. A dainty supper was served and a pleasant evening concluded with the singing of Auld Lang Syne.
