COMPO OFF!

Federal Opposition Parties DECIDE TO PART COMPANY. (Rec. 1.5.) CANBERRA, Sept. 27. Meetings of the United Australia Party and the Country Party were held to-day. The Parties decided to operate as separate entities within Parliament. Thus they are breaking their working arrangement that has been in existence for some years. Mr. R. G. Menzies was elected Leader of the U.A.P. It is the largest party after the Government. He thus will also be Leader of the Opposition. Mr W. M. Hughes, who led the Unked /Australian Party in the last Parliament, did not seek re-election but was elected Deputy-Leader.

Mr Fadden was re-elected as Leader of the Country Party.
