PLUNKET SOCIETY

At the monthly meeting of the Greymouth Branch of the Plunket Society, Mrs. F. M. Dennehy presided and the following members were aJso present; Mesdames F A. Kitchingham, G. Blair, J. O’Brien, N. V. Lovell, J. Griffen, J. Smith, M. R. Fahey, J. A. Macaulay, H. Harvey, L. Leahy, G. Boucher, Taylor, K. McCarthy and Miss Anderson.

The Moana representative (Mrs. Taylor) reported on difficulties experienced by her committee in the scattered area.—The committee undertook to accent financial responsibility for the trios, for a period of three months, the position then to be reviewed.

Mrs. J. Smith handed in £lO 10s, the result of the annual house-to-house colection in Blaketown. Nurse Pearce’s, report for June stated: — Headquarters: Visits to homes, old, 130. new 32—162. To Rooms: Babies 139, adults 167, preschool children 30—336. New cases, adults 19, babies. 15. Outstations: Visits to homes, old, 16’4; new 24— 188. To Rooms, babies, 151, adults 171, ore-school 23—345. New cases 21. Total number of new babies 36. The attendances at the Rooms have been poor, more especially at Greymouth during the month, probably on account of the cold, wet weather. Mumps are prevalent at Reeiton, & a number of isolated cases of influenza, with gastric complications, have been notified in the town and country area. Miss Fitzgibbon, Nursing Adviser to the Council, visited the Branch and her advice was helpful. ’ , The Chairman, Karitane Hospital Committee, wrote that a deficit shown on the working- of the Hospital for the year was due to increased overhead expenses and a 5 per cent, increases in salaries; and solicited the help of branches in meeting this loss. ’’ It was decided to contribute £lO and to forward the appeal to the two sub-branches for their consideration.
