ROSS NOTES

The monthly meeting of the Ross Women’s Institute was held in the Fire Brigade Hall on Friday evening. Owing to the stormy night, the attendance was small. Peebles (President.) presided, and after the Institute song was sung, Mrs R. Jones read the aspirations. The roll call for soldiers’ parcels resulted in 12s being raised. Apologies of absence were received from Mesdames Adamson and Collins. both of whom forwarded their contributions. The President said she was pleased to say that £8 3s was raised at their recent “bring and buy,” which would be handed over to the Soldiers’ Welfare Fund. Mrs. Fairhall had the wandering shilling for Mav and her basket of apples which was won by Mrs. Goad, netted 2s sd. A lengthy discussion took place on arrangements for the Institute birthday,' which will be held in August, members being asked to contribute to the gift basket for prizes. The following knitting for the month of June was handed in: Mittens 4 pairs; balaclavas 4; pullovers 3: Mary Carlyles 3; scarves 5. The hostesses Mesdames Head and Jones, served a nice supper after which the evening concluded.
