SUGAR RATIONING

THE COMPANY’S REPORT. (Rec. 12.50.)i SYDNEY. June 9. Mr. E. R. Knox, chairman, in moving the adoption of the annual report of the Colonial Sugar Company at its meeting to-day said: Sugar rationing in New Zealand and Australia during the past year resulted in sugar sales, during the balance of the financial year, being less by thirty-eight thousand tons than those during the corresponding period last year. However, over the whole year, the combined sales for New Zealand and Australia were a record. They just exceeded half a million tons. War conditions in Fiji caused difficulty in obtaining efficient manpower to carry on operations efficiently. The cane-growers, also, have to produce more of their foodstuffs, Consequently, cane cultivation suffered appreciably. The position of our pineapple project has not improved during the year, owing to lack of tinplate, and a shortage of labour. Our caneite factory has been working to capacity, and the quantity of board delivered was appreciably greater than in the preceding year. Our production of masonite has also been increased. The year has been a most strenuous one. and much has been "achieved, notwithstanding many difficulties.

The report antl balance sheet were adopted, and Mr. E. R. Nnox was reelected a director.
