COBDEN CROSSING DANGERS.

(To The Editor). Sir, —Permit me space to complain of the apparent inactivity. of the Railway Department to provide some adequate warning or safety device at their death-trap crossings at the Cobden bridge and railway station. The recent accident involving a motor car, luckily for the driver and passengers, did not cause serious injury, but this should act as a warning to the Department of more serious cases that might easily arise. I refer to the number of ‘buses making many journeys over these trans at nights, and especially on wet Friday evenings, when it is impossible to be definitely sure that the rails are clear. Nature plays fiend around this area at times, for in the fine clear, winter weather, the moisture •in the warmer air this side of the Cobden hills condenses on the outside of windows, where l it cannot be wiped off, as can that which forms on the inside of laden vehicles; and the small area cleared by the windscreenwiper does not allow sufficient angular vision. However, this could bn overcome, if every vehicle were to stop for five minutes on the Cobden bridge and clear the outside windows. But"there would still remain further hazards in the form of the various railway lights, which only help to mesmerise and distract road traffic attention. ox course, these lights are necessary to the safe running of the railways. But how about a little safety and consideration for life and limb.' perhaps in the cheapest and simplest, form of protection—illumination of the two crossing areas, before we- are faced with a tragedy involving the lives of bus travellers, whose safety depends entirely on the keen v’sion, or should 1 say second sight of the drivers.

Now I think it is high time someone in this matter, as the public so far, has onlv. been fed on promises and investigations, end then, finally, no action. I am. etc.. SERVICE' DRIVER.
