LABRADOR AIR BASE
EXISTENCE REVtALED. (Rec. 8.5.) RUGBY, Mav 17. Air authorities in Canada, Britain and the United States, have officially disclosed the existence of a great air base in Labrador, jointly occupied by their respective Air Forces. It is used by the R.A.F. Transport Command as a jumping off point for the delivery of military aii'craft to Britain, states the Air Minstry News Service. It is the largest airfield in the world, and cost about £3,000,000 to date, and the full project is still far from complete. Adaptation to post-war needs has been the governing factor in the construction. This year the Canadian Government completed its great north-west air passage—an undertaking m ?T e far-reaching in its effects than the Alaska highway. This . north-wes~ passage was dreamt of by men ot vision for four centuries, and at last it is a reality. In the last few months it has linked together a score of remote places on the top of the world, and one day will be carrying express air traffic from Europe to the Orient, India and Australia, via the Atlantic and Yukon. The main artery may be through the New Labrador airfield, With secondary bases, all recently constructed, in Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Maine (United States).
