Mr and Mrs P. Daly of Dunedin, who have been visiting relatives on the West Coast, returned home yesterday morning.

Rev. G. I. Laurenson, General Superintendent of the Home Mission Department of the Methodist Church, left Greymouth yesterday for Hokitika. Later in the week he will proceed to Dunedin.

The engagement is announced of Doreen Rae, second daughter of Mr and Mrs E. W. Holmes, of Blackball and Sergeant Pilot Basil Bretherton, second son of Lance-Corporal and the late Mrs D. Bretherton, of Dunedin. Sgt. Pilot Bretherton is at present serving overseas.

The death occurred at Dobson yesterday morning of Mr. John Samuel Geoghegan at the age of 62 years. Deceased was a native of Shag 1 omi. He had been in failing health for some time, and had been under medical treatment. He was found dean by neighbours at his home this mornin°\ He lived for the greater part of his life at Dobson, with his parents, and since the death of his sister some six years ago had-lived alone. lhe funeral will take place at Stillwater Cemetery to-day.

The death has occurred of Mr John Gunn Polson, Principal of the Christchurch Teachers’ Training College, at the age of 62 years. Most of his teaching work was done in Canterbury. He graduated M.A. at Canterbury University College in 1915. He was Headmaster of tne Belfast School, when, in 1919, he was appointed Vice-Principal of the Training College, becoming Principal in 1931, on the retirement of Mr J. E. Purchase. In 1923 he was President of the North Canterbury Branch ol the N.E. Educational Institute, and in 1929 was Dominion President. In 1926 he was elected teachers’ representative on the Canterbury College Board of Governors, and at the time of his death was Vice-Chairman of the Board of Governors and Chairman of the College Committee. In 1931 Mr Polson was appointed to the Teachers’ Superannuation Board.
